Amar Fattal

Amar Fattal is a third-year education policy PhD student at the George Washington University. Prior to attending GW, she earned a BA in English literature, a diploma for teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), and an MA in education with a specialization in TEFL from the American University of Beirut (AUB).

Amar has experience teaching secondary students and adult learners English as a foreign language. She’s also been working as a research assistant with GW Professor Joshua Glazer for 2 years now and has co-authored a book on educational system design with him.

Her interests range from the influence of governance on the sustainability of school improvement interventions to the influence of social capital on the teaching of controversial issues in social studies classrooms. She has a forthcoming book with Professor Glazer called The Grit and Grind: Building High-Performing Education Systems in an Era of Polarization and a master’s thesis titled, "The Role of Governance in Enabling and Sustaining School-Based Improvement."
