Empowering Educators. Strengthening Democracy.
A collaborative hub dedicated to research-informed civic dialogue and educational reform.
The George Washington University Forum on Democracy and Education (FDE) is a collaborative effort of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers dedicated to reinforcing the vital principles of democracy through the power of educational foundations and institutions. At a time when democratic foundations require renewed attention, we bring together educators and leaders at all levels, policy makers, think tanks, researchers and analysts, and students to bridge the gap between classroom practices, academic research, and policy analysis.
By bridging theory with practice, the FDE provides the essential knowledge base needed to guide education reform and cultivate the next generation of informed, active citizens. Our work rests on two core pillars:
Deliberative Processes
We explore the future of enriched civics teaching and learning through:
- Master classes
- Workshops for instructional designers, district leaders and teacher educators
- Facilitated discussions on schools and campuses
Actionable Products
The Forum's work fuels a growing repository of research-informed issue briefs, white papers, scholarly reviews, and digital engagement tools.
The Forum on Democracy and Education is generously supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
